Financial governance
This section covers the process by which the finances and our financial plans for our organisation are monitored and reviewed. A key component of this is ensuring that all staff follow the Trust's Standing Financial Instructions and Scheme of Delegation. We also publish every month the Trust's expenditure above £25,000.
Auditors' Local Evaluation
Each year the Audit Commission publishes the Auditors' Local Evaluation (ALE), which assesses how well NHS trusts manage and obtain value for money from their financial resources. In the 2009/2010 report, the Trust received a score of one. ALE assesses the following:

As part of the process, our auditors also produce an ‘annual audit letter’ that outlines any key issues that arose during the audit.

Charitable Accounts
Our charity is called the North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust Charitable Fund and is registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales. The Trust Board has devolved management of the fund to the Charitable Funds Committee. The members of this committee as Mike Little (Trust Chairman); Michael Bonner (Non-Executive Director); Mark Evens (Non-Executive Director and Committee Chair); Alistair Mulvey (Director of Finance); and Chris Platton (Acting Director of Nursing, Quality & Governance).
