Pathology

NOTICE: Due to on-going changes in our analytical equipment and significant refurbishment within our Blood Sciences department, we have chosen to voluntarily suspend our UKAS Accreditation during the transition. We will continue to maintain all quality management processes within the department, however if you have any concerns, please email GeneralPathology@ncic.nhs.uk 

The Pathology service operates across two main sites; Cumberland Infirmary and West Cumberland Hospital.

Pathology departments consist of:

• Blood Sciences (Biochemistry, Haematology and Transfusion)
• Cell Sciences (Histopathology, Non-Gynae Cytopathology, Andrology and Mortuary)
• Infection Sciences (Microbiology, Virology and Immunology)
• Point of Care Testing (PoCT)

All users of the NCIC Pathology Department are encouraged and welcome to complete an anonymous User Feedback Survey at any time. All responses will be swiftly reviewed and any actions undertaken. An annual report will be published each year on the actions taken from survey feedback.
