North Cumbria University Hospitals will be operating as usual on Friday, 29 April – the day of the royal wedding.

All services, including outpatient clinics, will be running as normal so any patient sent an appointment for that day should attend as on any other day.

Any patient who is unable to attend an appointment at the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle or West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven on 29 April should contact the relevant department as soon as possible – as with any appointment they cannot attend.

Trust Chief Executive Carole Heatly said: “Our over-riding priority is to ensure we provide high-quality care for our patients and maintain access to our services.

“Our services including outpatient clinics will be running as normal on 29 April. We would encourage all those with appointments to attend as usual or if they are unable to make it, to rearrange their clinic appointment with us as soon as possible.”

If a patient wishes to rearrange an appointment, they should call the number on their appointment letter as soon as possible, to allow the slot to be offered to someone else.

Ms Heatly added: “In terms of our staff, we have offered all our staff an extra day’s leave this year to take account of the Royal Wedding and they are free to take this extra day at any point in the year, when this fits into the clinical needs of their service.”
