The Cumberland Infirmary has been given a glowing report by patients leaving feedback on the NHS Choices website.

More than nine out of 10 patients (91%) leaving comments on the national website said they would recommend the Carlisle hospital to a friend.

Some of the comments from the past few weeks include “exemplary care from a first class team of caring professionals”, “a wonderful hospital staffed with the finest doctors and nurses”, and “I am most grateful for such considerate and sympathetic treatment”.

One patient, who had vascular surgery, said he was impressed with the “caring approach, the friendly staff, the high level of professionalism” and the way he was made to feel that he was in good hands. He said nothing could have been improved, in his opinion.

Another patient, admitted through A&E having had a heart attack, was treated “with dignity, care and thoughtfulness at all times”. He added: “The coronary care nurses were exceptional – knowledgeable, caring, thoughtful and attentive at all times.” He also said nothing about his treatment could have been improved.

West Cumberland Hospital also received many compliments, including “wonderful experience” and “very proud of local maternity services”. The website shows 76% of patients would recommend the Whitehaven hospital to a friend.

North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust monitors patient feedback from NHS Choices and other websites and responds when appropriate, for example if a particular area of concern has been raised.

Chief Executive Carole Heatly said: “Patient safety and the quality of the care we offer are our top priorities. We really value feedback from our patients.

“However good the comments we receive, we will never become complacent and are always striving to improve.”
