West Cumberland Hospital Redevelopment

North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust is delighted to announce that the final contract for the redevelopment of West Cumberland Hospital was signed today.

This means that the £90 million redevelopment can begin in earnest with an expected completion date of 2015.

Chairman Mike Little, said: “This is cause for celebration and signals the biggest single investment into the healthcare of West Cumbria for over half-a-century.

“I am delighted that we have now achieved all the necessary permissions and the redevelopment can move forward. I am sure this news will be welcomed by our community who can now look forward to a new hospital that will be fit to deliver modern healthcare in the 21st century.

“I would also like to take this opportunity of thanking the Project Team which has steered the project through all its stages and the clinical and staff teams who have contributed their ideas and supported the project.”

Preparatory work has been taking place on the Hensignham hospital site for sometime. Laing O Rourke will now start Phase 1 of the project which involves the building of the new part of the hospital which will provide clinical and inpatient services alongside dedicated theatres.
