People in North Cumbria are being encouraged to ‘Become the heartbeat of your local NHS.
North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust is becoming part of Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust - one of the top performing trusts in the country.
Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust has a target to recruit 10,000 members by December 1, 2012 when it officially acquires North Cumbria Hospitals NHS Trust.
The ‘Become the heartbeat of your local NHS’ campaign encourages local people to join the Trust as members and help shape hospital services in North Cumbria.
The road show is taking to the streets to engage with local people and encourage them to be part of the decision-making process by becoming members.
The road show will be touring the region beginning in Carlisle from Monday 18 June to give out information and answer questions about becoming a member. As a member you are kept informed about the work of the Trust and have the chance to give your views on plans for the services that matter to you. Members can also benefit from NHS discounts in shops and online.
Offering people a hot brew and the chance to sign up as a member, the road show team will drive a branded Range Rover to raise awareness of North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust becoming part of Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and what that means for local people.
Mr Dave Evans, medical director at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We are encouraging local people in North Cumbria to look out for our members’ recruitment road show which is touring the region in the coming weeks, giving you the opportunity to find out more about becoming a member.
“Becoming a member is a real opportunity for residents to truly shape local health services and it is through our membership that we are accountable to local people. Our members elect our governors who give their views to help develop our priorities.
“We’re going through lots of exciting changes so it’s a great time to join us. It’s absolutely free and you can be involved as much or as little as you like, from simply receiving newsletters and voting papers to donating your time as a member volunteer.”
