The NHS Trust Development Authority (NHS TDA) has today confirmed the appointment of Gina Tiller as Chair of North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust.

Gina, who has stood in as Interim Chair of the Trust since 1 February 2014 is a former qualified nurse, research officer and visiting lecturer at Northumbria University and has over 17 years’ experience at board level and extensive experience working across many areas in health.

Gina has previously been a Lay Member of the Independent Reconfiguration Panel, which gives advice to the Secretary of State for Health on contested service reconfigurations referred by Local Authority Scrutiny Committees. She is currently Honorary Vice President of Age UK Newcastle (since 2009). Gina has broad experience of the NHS, having worked within the service, represented patients and, in recent years, as someone with a disability, as a user of local health services.

On her appointment, Gina said: “I am delighted to be substantively appointed as Chair of North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust and have been impressed with the commitment, determination and drive I have witnessed to date, from the staff who are working tirelessly to deliver the best possible safe care to patients.

‘The Trust, over the last 12 months, has made great steps in improving services for patients. This is demonstrated in the positive patient experience results and the mortality rates that show the Trust as being within expected range.’

‘There are clearly still many challenges ahead, however there is also an exciting future. I am confident that we will continue to improve the services we provide to patients, in a way builds confidence within our local communities. In doing so, this will also prepare the organisations for acquisition by Northumbria Healthcare.’

‘I am looking forward to working with all stakeholders to shape a positive future for North Cumbria University Hospitals Trust.’

Sir Peter Carr, Chairman of the Trust Development Authority, said: ‘Gina has a wealth of experience working across the health sector and as a chair for a number of NHS organisations. I am confident that North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust will benefit greatly from her experience and knowledge as they continue on their journey of improvement.’

Gina has been appointed from April, 2014 until April, 2016 and is entitled to receive a remuneration of £36,779 per annum.
