Trust heads to capital with new recruitment premium

fresh-start

North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust is taking its international recruitment drive to London this weekend to attend the prestigious BMJ Careers Fair 2014 and showcase the fantastic opportunities on offer at hospitals in Carlisle and Whitehaven.

In a bid to attract more permanent clinicians and specialty doctors to join forces with the 28 whole time equivalent consultants who have already chosen to make North Cumbria their new home over the past year, the Trust has launched a new discretionary ‘recruitment premium’ to entice those looking for a fresh start in a beautiful part of the world.

The annual event, being held this year at the Business Design Centre in Islington, London on 17 and 18 October, attracts thousands of clinicians from right across the globe and is the must ‘go to’ event for those looking for their next big career move.

Over 40 permanent consultant and specialty doctor posts are currently being advertised by North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust on www.ncuhjobs.co.uk and a fresh round of high profile advertising is underway as part of the ‘Looking for a fresh start’ campaign.

The Trust’s new discretionary recruitment premium means that specialty doctors and consultants choosing to come and work at West Cumberland Hospital and the Cumberland Infirmary will benefit from an additional 10 to 15 per cent premium in addition to their salary.

The premium is paid over the first four years in post and is in addition to relocation packages of up to £8,000 being offered by the Trust for successful candidates.

Dr Peter Weaving, GP clinical director at North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust is attending the event in London. He said: “The launch of our new recruitment premium is fantastic news and we’re really hoping it will give us the extra boost we need to attract more doctors to Carlisle and Whitehaven.

“We are continuing to make very good strides in our improvement journey across the Trust but our single biggest challenge remains the recruitment of a more stable medical workforce so that we reduce our reliance on locum support. The more permanent clinicians we can attract the better as this will not only provide a better experience for our patients, but it will also relieve pressure on our busy teams who continue to do an absolutely sterling job on a daily basis.”

Medical posts currently being advertised by North Cumbria are all permanent positions and will work across both hospital sites in Carlisle and Whitehaven. The posts include:

  • Consultant Acute Care Physicians x 4 posts
  • Consultants in Anaesthetics and Intensive Care x 3 posts
  • Specialty Doctors in Anaesthetics and Intensive Care x 2 posts
  • Consultants in Elderly Care x 3 posts
  • Consultants in Emergency Medicine x 6 posts
  • Consultants in Gastroenterology x 4 posts
  • Consultant Histopathologists x 4 posts
  • Consultant Radiologists x 4 posts
  • Specialty Doctors in Radiology x 2 posts
  • Consultant in Stroke Medicine x 1 post
  • Consultant Urologists x 2 posts
  • Specialty Doctors in Obstetrics and Gynaecology x 6 posts
  • Consultant Cardiologists x 2 posts
  • Consultant Nephrologist x 1 post

The closing date for the current round of recruitment is Friday 14 November and candidates are encouraged to look on the dedicated recruitment website www.ncuhjobs.co.uk for more information about the roles and how to apply.

Dr Peter Weaving added: “We have a very strong message to deliver over the next two days, with our fantastic new hospital opening in Whitehaven next spring and the many safety and quality improvements that are now taking shape across our clinical teams every day.

“We are on the lookout for high calibre candidates who want to join us on our exciting journey, take a lead role in developing our services and in improving the care we deliver to patients even further. We hope our new recruitment premium will give us the extra added bonus we need to attract more hospital doctors to north and West Cumbria and we want to absolutely reassure people we are doing everything we can to make this happen.”
