North Cumbria Trust ensures scan waiting times target met

North Cumbria University Hospitals Trust (NCUH) has, for the first time in almost three years, ensured that over 99% of patients waiting for diagnostic procedures such as scans have been seen within the six-week target.

Latest figures from July 2016 show that for various diagnostic testing, including MRI, CT and ultrasound scans, 4,483 patients were on waiting lists for less than six weeks. Only 0.4% of patients had to wait longer – well within the 1% national target.

For CT scans, cystoscopies, gastroscopies and MRI scans in particular, 100% of patients were seen within the six-week target which means NCUH provides the best access possible for these patients.

Helen Ray, chief operating officer for NCUH, said: “The teams have worked extremely hard to change the way we provide these services and it is fantastic to see this hard work leading to such excellent improvements. We understand that it can be worrying and frustrating to be on a waiting list for a procedure, and it’s very reassuring to know that so many patients have been seen in a timely manner.”
