The Cumbria Health on Call (CHoC) base at the Cumberland Infirmary, Carlisle, is moving to be co-located next to the A&E Department from 8 May 2019.

The new location will enable improved partnership working between CHoC and the A&E department, improving the flow of patients between the two departments to ensure that the right patient is seen by the most appropriate clinician in a timely manner.

Davina Collins, CHoC Head of Nursing, said:

‘We are looking forward to moving into the new facilities at the Cumberland Infirmary, and the opportunities this will bring to work more closely with our A&E colleagues. The move will further enhance the quality of the patient journey within the healthcare system providing a seamless referral process between these services for our patients.’

Mandy Nagra, Executive Chief Operating Officer at North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust, said:

‘We are really pleased with the work that has been undertaken in order to improve the A&E department at the Cumberland Infirmary. As well as an improved waiting area, the new treatment rooms will enable much closer working with our colleagues in CHoC. We have been working side by side with CHoC at West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven since we opened the new hospital in 2015 and we know the benefits it can bring for our staff and for our patients.’

Access to the new CHoC location will be via the new A&E walk in entrance which is clearly signed. The CHoC reception area is located alongside the current A&E reception
