ENT team profile

Michelle Tait, Nurse Practitioner

Michelle Tait joined the Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) department in January 2014, having previously worked in Orthopaedics for a number of years. She qualified as a Nurse Practitioner in 2010, swiftly followed by completion of the Non-Medical prescribers course.

Michelle is currently serving as a committee member of the RCN ENT Maxillofacial forum and her interests outside of work include running and supporting her son who swims at national level, transporting him around the country to various trials and competitive events.

Barbara Gordon, Nurse Practitioner

Barbara Gordon has worked in the ENT department for many years, qualifying as Nurse Practitioner BSc Hons in 2003 and then as an independent nurse prescriber in 2006. She has a special interest in the management of sudden sensorineural hearing loss. Having worked full time to date, she will reduce her hours to cover 3 days per week from January 2017.

Interests outside of work include foreign travel, walks with her dogs and spending time with her grandchildren.

Carol Cockelty, Nurse Practitioner

Carol Cockelty has worked as a nurse at West Cumberland Hospital for as long as anyone can remember, initially in the A&E department. She developed an interest in ENT whilst working in outpatients and developed her skills in the management of chronic ear conditions. She now works part time at WCH and Workington Infirmary as our Aural Care Sister.

Outside of work Carol is an enthusiastic Pony Club organiser. She is a proficient show jumper and travels the country with her family winning many show jumping competitions.

Jo-Ann Munro, Nurse Practitioner

Jo-Ann Munro is an ENT Nurse practitioner with 16 years experience as a nurse, over 10 of these specialising in ENT and has most recently completed  a Nurse practitioner degree (MSc).    Prior to joining the ENT department she worked on the head and neck ward as a staff nurse. She now carries out nurse practitioner clinics in Carlisle, Keswick and Workington.

Sara Jarvis, ENT Consultant

Sara Jarvis qualified from the London Hospital Medical College in 1992. She trained in and around London and the South coast before moving to the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital to gain specialist paediatric experience. She has a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Keele and a Diploma in Postgraduate Medical Education (PgDipMedEd) from the University of Dundee.

Andrew Robson, ENT Consultant 

Andrew Robson qualified from the Middlesex Hospital medical School in 1984. He has been a Consultant  ENT surgeon in North Cumbria since 1996. His special interests are head and neck oncology, rhinology and surgical management of epiphora. He has a particular interest in surgical education and is a past Chairman of the Specialist Advisory Committee (SAC) in ENT. He is currently Director of Education for ENTUK, an intercollegiate examiner and the Guardian of Safe Working for the Trust.

Paul Counter, Clinical Director

Paul Counter Qualified from Charing Cross & Westminster Medical school in 1993 and subsequently joined the Royal Navy. He served for 21 years during which time he trained in ENT surgery in the North of England. He came to North Cumbria in 2013. He has a specialist interest in head and neck oncology and thyroid surgery. He is currently Clinical Director for head & neck service andchair of the healing arts committee
