  • FFRCP - Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians
  • DTM&H - Diploma in Tropical Medicine and Hygiene

Treatment and procedures

  • Performs sessions on Larch AB the acute Emergency Assessment Unit at CIC and occasional sessions in a similar role at WCH
  • Occasional consultations for in and outpatients with infection problems

Clinical Interests / specialist areas

  • Whole career has been involved in clinical practice, research and teaching in the area of Clinical Infection with particular interest in; blood borne viruses, bone and joint infection and travel medicine
  • Interest in Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

Professional membership

  • Chair of the British Association for CFS/ME (BACME) and Principal Medical Adviser for Action for ME
  • Member of the British HIV Association and have recently stood down as Chair of their Conference Committee
  • Member and previous Council Member of the British Infection Association
  • Deputy Medical Director of the Joint Royal Colleges of Physicians Training Board (JRCPTB)


  • Principal Investigator on numerous trials of new antibiotics and antivirals for HIV and hepatitis
  • Currently chair the Trial Steering Committee for the National Meningitis Project
