Accident & Emergency

General introduction

There are Accident & Emergency (A&E) departments at both the Cumberland Infirmary and West Cumberland Hospital, providing a 24-hour emergency care service for patients with injuries or acute medical or surgical conditions.

What we do

  • Rapid response care to patients with life threatening illness or injury
  • Appropriate first aid, definitive treatment and follow up care to patients with less serious injury
  • Emergency care for major accident/disaster and call out facility
  • Decontamination facility for chemical or radiological incidents

Location

  • Cumberland Infirmary - Ground floor, Red zone. A&E can be accessed from inside the main hospital or from a separate entrance outside. Parking is available across fron the A&E entrance
  • West Cumberland Hospital - Level two. The entrance to A&E is well sign posted as you drive into the hospital. There is a patient drop off zone and two disabled parking bays
