Colorectal Services

General introduction

Referrals for all adult patients with colorectal complaints are welcomed.  An extensive range of diagnostic procedures are available and nearly all patients will be treated within the Trust.

There is an establishment of four colorectal surgeons with broad interests in diagnosis and treatment of colorectal disease.  Service is provided for bowel cancer and premalignant colorectal lesions, as well as diverticular disease, inflammatory bowel disease, functional bowel problems and anorectal disease.

Counselling clinics for the National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme take place on both main hospital sites and colonoscopy for this programme is provided by one of the surgeons and a nurse endoscopist at the Cumberland Infirmary
