Choosing our hospitals
Our patients are at the heart of everything that we do. We are the largest secondary care provider in north Cumbria and we have two hospitals - the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle and the West Cumberland Hospital in Whitehaven.
We serve a population of around 340,000 and work closely with our GP colleagues in the localities of Carlisle, Eden, Allerdale and Copeland.
The Trust has made excellent progress during the past year thanks to the hard work and commitment of all our staff to introduce initiatives that build our culture and capacity around quality.
Getting the basics right.
The Trust has adopted a framework contained within the Department of Health’s report, High Quality Care for All (2008), which contains three dimensions:
These three dimensions are the cornerstone of the priorities of the Trust.
In the Care Quality Commission’s Annual Health Assessment the Trust was awarded a score of “Good” for the quality of patient care provided. We fully met all the CQC’s Core Standards and made positive mid year and end of year declarations. These Core Standards demonstrate that our services are safe and of a high quality.
We were also named one of the top 40 hospitals in England by CHKS. CHKS Ltd, part of the Capita Group Plc, is the leading independent provider of healthcare intelligence and quality improvement services to the NHS and independent healthcare sector. These awards celebrate excellence and are based on the evaluation of 21 key performance indicators covering safety, clinical effectiveness, health outcomes, efficiency, patient experience and quality of care.
