Getting to West Cumberland Hospital and The Cumbrian Clinic, Whitehaven

Patient Transport Service

The Patient Transport Service to our hospitals is co-ordinated by North West Ambulance Service. If you are on a low income you may be eligible for help with travel costs.

By bus:

Buses run frequently to West Cumberland Hospital from the centre of Whitehaven and the surrounding area. You can read more about their services here or call them on 0871 200 22 33. (Calls cost 10p per minute from a BT landline, calls from other service providers and calls from mobiles may vary).

By car:

If you are using satellite navigation the postcode for West Cumberland Hospital is CA28 8JG.

From M6:
Exit M6 Junction 40, taking the A66 towards Keswick/Workington. Immediately south of Cockermouth, take the A595 to Whitehaven. After the Lillyhall roundabout and dual carriageway, take the bypass road at the next roundabout (second exit) to Whitehaven avoiding Distington. Approaching Whitehaven, do not go into the town centre, follow the A595 (Loop Road) through two sets of traffic lights and take the second left at the roundabout at the bottom of Homewood Hill (signposted West Cumberland Hospital).

From Carlisle:
From the centre of Carlisle, follow signs for Workington along Wigton Road and pick up the A595; then follow the directions above as from Cockermouth.

Directions to The Cumbrian Clinic

  1. Enter the grounds of West Cumberland Hospital
  2. Turn right and follow the road round the hospital. The road is now a two way system
  3. Pass A&E on the left
  4. Proceed until you reach the University of Cumbria - Education Centre Library on the right hand side
  5. The Cumbrian Clinic is situated directly opposite the University on the left
  6. The entrance to the clinic is via the automatic doors. The Outpatient Reception area is situated on the ground floor
