Our Patient Panels

The North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust Patient Panel is an independent voluntary group of people who are patients or have been patients in the past.

There are two branches to the Panel for geographical convenience, one in Carlisle the other in Whitehaven.

The aim of the Patient Panel is to work with the Trust to improve the service provided to patients, relatives and carers, as well as assisting staff in providing the highest level and quality of care.

The group assist the Trust in providing improved communication and information between patients, relatives, carers, Trust staff and members of the Trust board to help improve service provision. Members review and make suggestions for ways and means of improving accessibility to services.

Patient Panel members will listen to issues raised relating to both satisfaction and concerns with service provision brought to their attention by users and they will advise the Trust of these issues, making positive suggestions where appropriate.

Members may also comment and make observations on policies that influence patient care, safety and service provision.

To achieve these aims, Patient Panel members are invited to sit on committees such as Safety & Quality in order to provide a patient’s view during discussions. Members are also invited to participate in audits with Trust staff concerning the environment, nutrition, wards, hygiene. In addition, the Panel are involved with the Evidence Based Hospital Design Group who look at ways of improving the general hospital environment.

If you are interested in being involved in your local hospital’s service and quality of care to patients, why not find out more about the Patient Panel? All are welcome to attend a Panel meeting, meet some members and decide if it may be something you wish to become part of.
