Teaching and events

The Academic Surgical Unit offers opportunities to strengthen surgical clinical excellence by providing research training and education. It aims to provide high quality teaching and training for Medical Students, Foundation Doctors and Physician Associates.

  • Successful running of a weekly teaching programme for surgical junior doctors (we demonstrated an improvement in the GMC Survey results and a balance between training, service pressure and staffing crisis).
  • Organising of surgical workshop and laparoscopic training day in support with Ethicon.
  • Weekly surgical journal club for ongoing professional development and training.
  • The buddy system for foundation doctors helps their rotation in surgery and career development supported by their senior peers.
  • MBBS programme for Surgery
